What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder position at Fred Smith Company?
PURPOSE:
Perform duties for fabricating, modifying or repairing equipment or parts used in heavy highway construction.
JOB DUTIES:
- Complies with all safety rules in order to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform basic math functions and read multiple styles of measuring devices.
- Demonstrates the understanding of how to use tools necessary to complete the tasks required of the job.
- Understands how to cut individual components and place in the proper location using multiple leveling devices.
- Assembles, disassembles, sets up, diagnoses, adjusts and maintains construction equipment.
- Repair parts and/or steel, modify, design, layout or fabricate a variety of metal work.
- Cut, fit and weld metal using gas and electric welding equipment; perform skilled brazing and soldering.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of tools and welding methods used in the welding trade including brazing, soldering, electrical, gas and arc welding. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals; understand and follow directions; perform minor repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy construction equipment; prioritize, pay attention to detail, take initiative, and problem solve.
EXPERIENCE:
Over one year to become familiar with the accurate use of a variety of welding techniques.
