This role exists to deliver reviewed financials by business day 10 each month, institutionalize financial discipline across the organization, and remove execution risk from the accounting function. The Controller will lead close, AP, inventory integrity, payroll, compliance, and system-driven workflows while partnering closely with operations and market leadership.
What You Will Own
- Deliver reviewed monthly financials by BD10 with a fully reconciled balance sheet.
- Lead the full close process, including cash, AP, AR, payroll, inventory, fixed assets, and WIP.
- Oversee AP operations, vendor governance, payment scheduling, and exception handling.
- Maintain weekly cash-planning inputs and enforce disbursement discipline.
- Own inventory and COGS integrity in partnership with Warehouse and Fulfillment leadership.
- Maintain compliance calendar including payroll, sales tax, licenses, 1099s, insurance audits, and lender documentation.
- Build and maintain accounting SOPs across QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Monday.com, and internal workflows.
- Prepare lender-ready reporting packages, KPI dashboards, and variance analyses.
- Lead and develop the accounting team.
Cross-Department Partnership
This role works frequently with:
- General Managers (by market): budget questions, installer-related financial support.
- Customer Experience Manager: collections discipline and financial data entry quality.
- Warehouse Leadership: inventory reconciliation and process compliance.
- Sales Leadership: pricing, commissions, and budget alignment.
What Success Looks Like
- Reviewed financials delivered by business day 10 every month.
- AP, inventory, payroll, and compliance fully operating without CFO intervention.
- Clean, documented SOPs adopted across departments.
- High-trust, high-accountability culture established inside the accounting function.
Who Thrives Here
- Systems-driven thinkers who build durable processes instead of heroic fixes.
- Leaders who hold themselves accountable and surface hard truths early.
- Operators who want ownership, not guardrails.
Qualifications
- CPA or Master’s in Accounting from a reputable program.
- 1-2 years experience at a public accounting firm (Big 4 strongly preferred).
- 3-4 years experience in home services, construction, or other project-based businesses.
- Proven ownership of monthly close in a $10M revenue environment.
- High integrity — dishonesty, deflection, or lack of accountability are deal-breakers.
