Staff Attorney – Northwest Ohio (Toledo Region)

Are you an attorney looking for meaningful work, real autonomy, and the chance to directly impact the working lives of Ohio’s law enforcement professionals? The FOP/Ohio Labor Council is hiring a Staff Attorney for the Toledo/Northwest Ohio region.

This is not a corporate cubicle job. It is hands-on advocacy across a mix of courtroom work, arbitration, collective bargaining, and direct representation of the men and women who serve our communities. You will spend plenty of time on the road, meeting with members, bargaining units, and tribunals throughout Northwest Ohio, and you will also enjoy tremendous scheduling flexibility and independence in how you manage your caseload.


Compensation and Benefits:

Staff Attorneys are part of an in-house union with negotiated salary and benefits.

Starting salary: $90,217

Benefits include monthly car allowance, medical, dental, and vision insurance; long-term and short-term disability benefits; 401(k), generous vacation time, sick time, 12 paid holidays, cell phone and home internet reimbursement; and an AWESOME TEAM

What You Will Do

You will serve as a key legal representative for our members on issues that matter, discipline, investigations, grievances, contract negotiations, and public-sector labor law. Day-to-day work includes:

  • Representing members and/or the OLC in court, arbitration, and before bodies like the State Employment Relations Board, Civil Service Commissions, and Personnel Boards of Review.
  • Providing legal analysis and research on public-sector labor law and matters affecting our membership.
  • Handling grievance arbitrations, internal investigations, and disciplinary matters.
  • Negotiating collective bargaining agreements, including fact-finding and conciliation.
  • Advising staff representatives and bargaining unit members on grievances and labor-related issues.
  • Helping to organize new units and assist with elections.
  • Managing a high level of travel throughout the region with significant discretion over your schedule.

What We Are Looking For

  • Juris Doctor and active Ohio law license in good standing.
  • Valid driver’s license (you will drive a lot).
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and juggle multiple matters.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional communication with members, employers, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
