Substitute School NursePosition Type: Day to Day Substitute NurseLocation: DistrictwideReports to: Building PrincipalSalary: $24.00/hourGeneral Description:Franklin Public Schools is seeking qualified, compassionate, and flexible Substitute School Nurses to support student health services on an as-needed basis. The Substitute School Nurse plays a critical role in promoting a safe and healthy school environment by providing direct care, responding to health-related concerns, and supporting students physical and emotional well-being. Assignments may include coverage of school health offices or providing nursing support for field trips.Overview of Responsibilities:

• Assess and evaluate students' health status
• Serve as health advocate and provide primary and emergency health care to students, staff and visitors
• Provide appropriate staff with student medical information and guidance related to student health issues as needed
• Serve as a resource person in school health education programs for students, school personnel and parents
• Administer medication in accordance with school and state policies
• Teach students and staff various health topics including prevention and control of illness, communicable disease, pediculosis, dental problems and skin protection
• Assist in determining the presence of significant psycho-educational disturbances in the school-aged child
• Participate in the modification of the school program to meet the needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions that require modifications in school
• Develop Individual Health Care Plans
• Act as an advocate and consultant for children suspected of being abused or neglected
• Serve on building and system wide committees as needed
• Maintain continuing education requirements for recertification by DESE
• Maintain supplies, take inventory and order necessary equipment for health office
• Utilize SNAP software to document and maintain accurate health records for students
• Maintain health room statistics as required for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
• Promote a healthful and safe on-site environment for students and staff

Qualifications Required:

• Registered Nurse licensed in Massachusetts
• School experience preferred
• Must be the kind of person who is warm, caring, and respectful and have a strong desire to work with young children.
• Ability to collaborate with all faculty & staff.
• Must successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) background check and national fingerprinting screening (CHRI).
