What are the responsibilities and job description for the PHARMACY TECHNICIAN position at FRANKLIN PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER INC?
JOB SUMMARY: The incumbent is accountable to the Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy. Assist the Pharmacist in carrying out the activities of the Pharmacy department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the Pharmacist and fills stock replacements.
- Makes requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Director.
- Assists in controlling stock, except controlled substances; pre-packages drugs; prepares stock solutions and written formulas; receive, sign and store stock items; and assures that all are checked by the Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Director.
- Helps maintain an orderly and clean environment within the department; including the cleanliness of pharmacy stock, supplies and equipment.
- Monitors inventory and completes requisitions as needed.
- Maintains files for prescriptions, purchase orders, stock orders and requisitions.
- Receives, inspects and verifies all credit returns.
- Removes or recommends removal of unneeded, deteriorated or outdated drugs from stock. Prepares items for return or disposal.
- Assist with monthly physical inventory.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Establish and maintain patient accounts
- Post charges, payments and adjustments
- Prepare daily deposits
- Reconcile daily receipts to daily reports
- File and label prescription refills written by physicians
- Assist Pharmacist with other housekeeping duties
- Performs any other related duties as instructed by Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Pharmacy annually wherein a satisfactory overall rating is considered a minimum acceptable level of performance.
PRIVACY RULE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures.
- Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures.
- Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient’s medical privacy.
- Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards.
5. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
- Must adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Must receive Safety and Hazardous Communication training annually.
- Must exercise universal precautions and comply with safety standards and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of OSHA and CLIA requirements to assure compliance.
PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION (PHI) ACCESS: RESTRICTED- For purposes of HIPAA Compliance there are 4 workforce categories, which define the level of access to PHI that is granted to the incumbent. This position is classified under ANCILLARY PROVIDERS and therefore granted RESTRICTED access- to be defined according to workforce member’s specific job duties, if for non-treatment purposes, according to the purpose for which use is intended. Use and disclosure must be in accordance with applicable privacy policies and procedures.
Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician training program with minimum of one year work experience in related.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform light lifting and repetitious physical activity. Computer literate. Possess the ability to communicate clearly. Requires excellent interpersonal skills and must maintain professional working relations with staff and public. Possess knowledge and understanding of cash internal controls and reconciliation of daily receipts.
