JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant/Lab/X-ray Technician, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides a variety of medical and clerical duties associated with patient care. The incumbent maintains a pleasant, courteous and cooperative manner with patients, visitors and Center's personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
2. Work up patients and record vital signs, weights and chief complaints on progress notes at each visit.
3. Record patients' name and chart number on all pages in the medical records.
5. Assist patients in exam rooms. Assist nurses and/or provider with procedures and treatments.
6. Administer medication as ordered by providers, under the supervision of the provider and/or registered nurse.
7. Maintain and organize supplies in the supply room. Keep exam room stocked and organized at all times.
8. Maintain up-to-date CPR Certification and submit a copy of CPR card to the personnel department.
9. Participate in the nurse training sessions, maintain CEU's as required by the State Nurses Licensure Board.
10. Any other duties as assigned.
£ LAB TECHNICIAN:
- Make sure all lab results are on charts before giving chart to health care provider.
- Assist nurses with mailing of correspondences to patients for abnormal lab and missed appointments and document actions in patient's medical record
- Performs routine lab procedures such as but not limited to: Wet Mount, KOH, Micro-Urine, Strep A, Hematocrit, Glucose, Urine Dip, Urine HCG, Hemocult, etc.
- Performs phlebotomy.
- Performs and documents quality controls.
- Monitor inventory levels and reorder supplies as needed.
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Responsible for specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results.
- Notifies provider of pertinent results.
- Maintains proper records.
- Maintains CEU’s as required and participates in in-house training sessions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
£ X-Ray
- Performs routine x-ray examinations at the request and under the supervision of a qualified physician.
- Maintains x-ray film files and records.
- Oversees maintenance of x-ray equipment and maintains supplies for x-ray dark rooms.
- Performs and mounts EKG’s at the health care provider’s request or as time permits.
- May fill-in at other site location for other x-ray personnel when necessary.
- Maintains CEU’s as required and participates in in-house training sessions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide front desk support as the need arises.
- Answers telephone and give information to callers, screens and route calls to appropriate destination in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner. Obtains and records caller's name, time of call, nature of business, and person called upon. Retrieve patient charts for office visits, doctors' or nurses' telephone calls requiring patient's information.
- Keeps client records accurately identified.
- Checks charts daily for incomplete histories and brings same to the attention of the appropriate member of the health care team for correction.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Performance will be evaluated by the Nurse Manager or designee annually; wherein an overall satisfactory rating is considered as a minimum acceptable level of performance.
PRIVACY RULE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures.
- Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures.
- Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient’s medical privacy.
- Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards.
5. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records

Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or GED equivalent. Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program with emphasis in Laboratory and X-ray procedures or an equivalent combination of training, education and work experience relative to the position. One or more years work experience in medical setting. Certified or registered MA preferred. Possess pleasant personality, good telephone etiquette and public relations skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in the above job description. Require human relations skills to deal effectively with patients/visitors in person or via telephone. Must have keyboard experience and have knowledge in medical records. Possess the skills and ability to operate lab/x-ray equipment, multi-line telephone, copier, adding machine, fax machine and other office equipment.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CPR, CMA, CCMA, RMA
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: English as first language preferred. Bilingual/bicultural will be considered.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Requires the use of office equipment, such as copier, computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, calculators and fax machines. Requires normal vision range.
