Competency-Based Instructional Coach-High School

The Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a Competency-Based Instructional Coach-High School for the 2025-2026 school year.The Competency-Based Education (CBE) Instructional Coach - High School will support the transformation of traditional educational practices into competency-based approaches that empower students, personalize learning pathways, and ensure equitable outcomes for all learners. This position will support teachers and administrators in developing and implementing elements of proficiency-based instruction, with a focus on high school implementation. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator with a deep understanding of competency-based education principles and practices who can guide others through the cultural, structural, and pedagogical shifts necessary for successful implementation. Essential Duties: Provide job-embedded professional development to high school teachers on competency-based instructional practicesCoach teachers in designing authentic, performance-based assessments that are meaningful and empowering for studentsSupport educators in developing transparent learning progressions with clear, measurable learning targetsGuide teachers in providing timely, differentiated support based on individual student learning needsFacilitate the design of flexible learning pathways that allow for varied pacing while maintaining high expectationsBuild teacher capacity to develop transferable knowledge, skills, and dispositions in studentsModel effective competency-based instructional strategies through demonstration lessonsLead collaborative work to establish rigorous, common expectations for learning that are explicit, transparent, measurable, and transferableSupport the development of structures and processes that shift from seat-time to evidence of masteryCollaborate with administration to develop systems for monitoring student progress and providing interventionsGuide teams in rethinking assessment practices to yield timely, relevant, and actionable evidenceSupport the development of mechanisms for students to demonstrate learning through multiple pathwaysAssist in redesigning grading and reporting systems to align with competency-based approachesGuide educators in examining biases and creating inclusive learning environmentsSupport the development of systems that remove predictability of success based on social or cultural factorsCoach teachers in recognizing and cultivating the unique gifts and talents of each studentHelp teams identify and address barriers that prevent all students from achieving mastery of high standards Our employees are offered a competitive benefits package.

We are seeking candidates committed to continuously improving practices in order to best serve our students, teachers, and communities.Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union (FNESU) is a Pre-K-12 system comprised of 6 rural towns in Northern Vermont; Bakersfield, Berkshire, Enosburg, Montgomery, Richford and Sheldon. FNESU consists of six Elementary Schools, two Middle Schools, two High Schools, and one Technical Career Center. FNESU serves approximately 1,950 students within our six towns. FNESU is situated in rural northwestern Vermont, which is the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts.

We are located just 20 miles from Jay Peak Resort, 32 miles from Smuggler's Notch, and within driving distance to several other surrounding ski resorts. There are plenty of areas to hike, swim, cross-country ski, snowmobile, and mountain bike. We are an hour away from Burlington and just an hour and a half from Montreal.
