Sylvandale Coach Expectations: Prioritize Student Safety – Ensure athletes are supervised, use equipment properly, and follow all safety protocols. Walk players to practice from outside the gates before practice begins, so all students are accounted for. Ensure all athletes are outside of the school gates after games and practices. Teach Fundamentals and Skill Development – Focus on helping students improve their athletic skills and understanding of the game. Model Sportsmanship and Respect – Demonstrate positive behavior toward players, officials, opponents, parents, and staff. Promote Character Development – Teach responsibility, teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and accountability. Create a Positive and Inclusive Environment – Make all student-athletes feel valued, supported, and welcome. Communicate Effectively – Maintain clear and professional communication with athletes, families, and school administration. Support Academic Success – Reinforce that academics come first and encourage students to meet eligibility requirements. Coordinate with Office Staff to conduct grade checks once a week and only play students with eligibility. Follow School and District Policies – Adhere to all athletic, school, league, and district rules and expectations. Maintain Organized Practices and Events – Plan purposeful practices, manage time effectively, and be prepared for games and competitions. Represent the School Professionally – Serve as a positive ambassador for the school both on and off campus. Coaching at the middle school level is about much more than winning games; it is about helping students grow as athletes, teammates, and individuals. Coaching kids on how to lose with dignity is a vital part of a healthy sports team. Preferred: -Previous coaching experience (youth, school-based, or recreational), experience as a cheerleader, cheer coach and dance coach or spirit program advisor. -Experience working in a school setting
