Job Summary
Franklin Granville Vance Smart Start, Inc. (FGV Smart Start) seeks a highly motivated and compassionate Social Worker III to serve as the Adolescent Parenting Program (APP) Coordinator for Vance County. The Coordinator will supervise the Assistant Social Worker, manage a caseload of up to 25 adolescent parents (ages 19 and under), and ensure high-quality, evidence-based services are delivered to promote healthy parenting, educational attainment, and family well-being. This position works collaboratively with the Program Director, Executive Director, and community partners to advance the goals of the North Carolina Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TIPPI) and the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct management services to program participants, including monthly home visits, using the Parents as Teachers model.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including hard-copy files of parental consent forms and electronic tracking of home visits using the Visit Tracker Database.
- Report all required data elements for program activities completed each month to a secure electronic system (e.g., EZTIPPI Database) by the 10th day of the following month.
- Complete at least 20 hours of professional development training annually to improve program outcomes.
- Recruit Community Advisory Committee (CAC) members, attend quarterly meetings.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community agencies and school systems to meet the needs of program participants.
- Recruit, screen, and train program participants year-round.
- Implement the evidence-based home curriculum, Be Proud! Be Responsible! Be Protective!, with fidelity to maximize effectiveness in preventing repeat pregnancy, school dropout, and child maltreatment.
- Participate in ongoing efforts to reduce racial, or socio-economic health disparities among program participants and within the community, including activities such as academic assistance, parenting education, linkages with medical and prevention health services, parent involvement, career awareness, job skills development, individual counseling, cultural enrichment, and recreation.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in social work.
Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, or related field preferred: however, experience with a Bachelor's maybe acceptable.
- Experience: Minimum of two years providing direct case management of social services to adolescents, young parents, or families.
- Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal and communications abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, PowerPoint, and Zooms. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse partners. Experience managing volunteers and community partnerships preferred.
- Other Requirements: Valid North Carolina driver's license. Ability to operate a 15-passenger van (training provided).
