1st Grade Mentor Teacher
Position Summary
Franklin Discovery Academy is seeking a dedicated and collaborative 1st Grade Mentor Teacher to serve as the primary classroom teacher for a group of students. At Franklin Discovery Academy, homeroom teachers are referred to as Mentor Teachers to reflect our emphasis on relationship building, student guidance, and whole-child development.
The 1st Grade Mentor Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, fostering a safe and supportive classroom environment, and working closely as part of a collaborative kindergarten and 1st grade team. This role is ideal for an educator who values teamwork, strong instructional practice, and meaningful connections with students and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary homeroom and classroom teacher for a 1st grade class of students
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in core subject areas
- Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic growth and positive behavior
- Build strong relationships with students and serve as a mentor and advocate for their academic and social-emotional development
- Collaborate closely with kindergarten and 1st grade teaching teams to plan instruction, align curriculum, and support student success
- Use student data to inform instruction, differentiation, and interventions
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and classroom updates
- Work collaboratively with special education staff, interventionists, and support personnel to meet the needs of all learners
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, assessments, professional development, and team meetings
- Maintain accurate records, lesson plans, and required documentation
Qualifications
- Valid Utah Educator License with appropriate elementary endorsement
- Elementary teaching experience preferred, particularly in early primary grades
- Strong understanding of early literacy, numeracy, and developmentally appropriate instructional practices
- Demonstrated classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a grade-level team
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Bilingual skills are a plus
