Overview
Maintains the cleanliness, appearance, and general condition of assigned school facilities, furnishings, and equipment. Performs routine cleaning duties and other custodial tasks to provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Reports maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or repair needs promptly to the appropriate supervisor and assists with other custodial responsibilities as assigned. Guard against waste of fuel, water, light, power, and supplies. Carry out all work orders relating to buildings and grounds as assigned. Operate or otherwise use such maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment, as assigned, in a safe, effective, and careful manner. Assist the Director of Building and Grounds in maintenance, care, and inventory of all custodial supplies, materials, and equipment. Notify the Director of Building and Grounds, or his designee, of major equipment and service breakdowns. Perform such tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned. Able to consistently lift and move loads of up to fifty pounds.
Duties
- Perform thorough cleaning of all areas, including floors, windows, restrooms, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Conduct window cleaning and pressure washing to maintain clear visibility and curb appeal.
- Handle janitorial tasks such as trash removal, sanitation of surfaces, and restocking supplies to ensure cleanliness throughout the facility.
- Operate cleaning machinery safely, including floor care equipment and pressure washers, while adhering to proper manual handling procedures.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks safely when moving furniture or large cleaning supplies to facilitate thorough cleaning routines.
Experience
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial setting is preferred but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Familiarity with cleaning techniques such as window washing, floor care (buffing, stripping), and sanitation practices is advantageous.
- Experience operating cleaning equipment like pressure washers, floor buffers, or carpet cleaners is a plus.
- Knowledge of chemical handling procedures and infection control standards ensures safe and effective cleaning practices.
- Strong physical stamina with the ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual tasks comfortably during overnight shifts.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with good time management skills to complete all duties efficiently during scheduled hours.
- Customer service skills are beneficial for maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with staff or visitors if needed.
