POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA currently has one open custodial position:
Monday – Friday 8am-11am with start/stop time flexibility
In this role, you will support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Custodial staff members are responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary welcoming environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers and guests in accordance with all YMCA policies and procedures
- Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers and guests
- Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using active listening skills
- Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility
- Clean areas assigned to ensure the building and grounds are properly cleaned
- Perform janitorial duties which include, but are not limited to wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, room setup/breakdown, vacuuming, grounds care, snow shoveling (as needed) and other general cleaning/maintenance services
- Report needed repairs and/or any unsafe conditions in a timely manner
- Replace soap, paper towels and other supplies
- Maintain laundry as needed
- Safely operate cleaning equipment and properly handle and store cleaning compounds and chemicals
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma/GED and six months cleaning/maintenance experience preferred but not required
- Ability to understand and interpret instructions
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment preferred
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
- Ability to pass a background check – CORI & SORI
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Move up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools 10-15 times a day (as needed)
- Work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms
- Ability to clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed
- Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust
- Perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs; and laying on stomach or back
- The work environment may include working in the outdoors, or in warm air temperatures indoors
