Franklin County Public Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Public Health team. The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities. Working within a Local Health Department, the RN provides skilled nursing services, community education, disease prevention, and outreach in accordance with Public Health Law, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) guidelines, and agency policies. This position involves independent fieldwork as well as collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to address a wide range of public health needs. No prior public health experience is required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided for all skill levels. Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide nursing services in accordance with professional standards, including health assessments, immunizations, communicable disease investigations, and case management.
- Responsible for assessing, planning and coordinating the Immunization Program (VFC, VFA, State and Private)
- Maintains current immunization program policy and standing orders.
- Responsible for vaccine management, storage, handling and administration.
- Participate in communicable disease surveillance, reporting, contact tracing, and outbreak response in collaboration with NYSDOH.
- Provide direct clinical services in immunization clinics, maternal/child health programs, chronic disease programs, and other community health initiatives.
- Engage in health promotion and education activities, including community presentations, outreach events, and evidence-based programming.
- Document all services accurately and timely using electronic medical records and required state forms.
- Collaborate with local healthcare providers, schools, community agencies, and other partners to support public health goals.
- Participate in preparedness and emergency response activities, including drills and real‑time public health emergencies.
- Maintain current knowledge of public health practices, NYSDOH guidance, and emerging health issues.
- Carry out other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department from a course approved by such department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse.
2. Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at the time of application.
3. Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of application, maintained throughout employment
