What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney position at Franklin County Probate Court?
The purpose of the Staff Attorney classification is to support the court’s judicial team (judge and magistrates) with research, writing, special projects, and other legal duties in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, Local Rules, and the Ohio Supreme Court Rules of Superintendence.
Job Duties
Drafts decisions, orders, and entries related to motions and other pending requests.
Researches statutes, case law, and procedure using online and hard copy research sources.
Takes notes and provides courtroom management and technological assistance in contested and uncontested hearings and status conferences.
Answers inquiries from judicial officers, deputy clerks, parties, and parties’ counsel.
Proofreads and edits judicial officers’ decisions, orders, and entries.
Reviews new estate filings in coordination with deputy clerks.
Performs case management of the court’s docket.
Serves or arranges for service of new filings.
Attends professional seminars.

Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctorate.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong writing and communication skills.
Active license to practice law in Ohio.
Practice experience in probate, civil litigation, or transactional law.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None required.
