What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Technician III position at Franklin County (NC)?
An employee in this class oversees daily workflow and project management as assigned by Library Administration at the Franklin County Central Library in Louisburg. They train and coordinate part-time library staff to cover circulation and customer service. They assist patrons as needed and model customer service, readers’ advisory, reference, and computer assistance for part-time staff. Work requires collaboration with the Administrative and Management Teams to maintain the Central Library’s collections and supports library services and programming. They also prepare and/or assist with various administrative financial tasks. This position also serves as part of the Library Supervisory Team. Work requires significant public contact. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Library Administrative Team and is evaluated based on meeting established goals.
Serves as the primary customer service representative for the CentralLibrary and responds to all customer complaints and concerns, referring to Library Administration if needed.
Coordinates part-time staff and scheduling to assure staff coverage of operating hours seeking assistance from Library Administration as needed.
Provides administrative financial support to the Library Administration Team including, but not limited to, accounts payable documentation, deposit preparation, and records retention.
Organizes training in new practices and procedures, as directed by administration, for part-time staff. Makes suggestions to Library Administration on where additional training for customer service staff is needed.
Coordinates branch collection maintenance in collaboration with the Management Team. Creates and implements a plan for merchandising the collection through displays in the main branch.
Assists the Management Team with support and delivery of programs and services as needed.
Supports facility maintenance by completing regular building assessments and effectively sharing information with library administration on issues that should be addressed.
Acts as primary safety officer for the Library Department, which requires sharing information with Library Administration and the Library Supervisory Team. Trains Central Library staff on building specific safety procedures and reports safety issues to Library Administration and Risk Management if necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of library procedures, methods, materials, and practices.
General knowledge of computers, audio-visual equipment, and other equipment in the library.
Working knowledge of the circulation, readers’ advisory, and basic library procedures; working knowledge of books and authors
Some knowledge of the theory and objectives of a public library system.
Ability to work independently and to develop and implement a schedule of program operations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens of all ages.
Ability to learn automated system, cataloging and other library procedures and implement procedures with a minimum of errors.
Bachelor’s degree or experience in library work and/or supervisory experience is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree in library science from an accredited ALA Library school is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, fingering, talking, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally; up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to maintain records, match books with cards, read book spines, count monies, and operate a minicomputer.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire.
Salary : $45,211 - $47,472
