Position Title: School Volunteer / Coach Volunteer
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Volunteers play a vital role in the school community. Individuals who are committed to our students are essential to bringing outside experience and different perspectives to the school and students. Volunteers enrich our school division’s programs, strengthen the home/school connection, and help us build partnerships with public agencies and community businesses.
Potential Duties
- Classroom Support - assist teachers with lessons or preparing materials
- Student Support - listening to students read, mentoring, providing support for small-group or individual students during instruction
- Event Supervision - supervise students during lunch, recess, or field trips
- Material & Equipment Assistance - help organize or distribute equipment, prepare bulletin boards, or assist with classroom cleanup
- School Operations - assist with school-wide events, help serve snacks, assist with fund-raising activities such as the school book fair
- Special Skills - share unique skills and knowledge, such as coaching
Expectations
- Professionalism and Conduct: Volunteers are expected to act as positive role models.
- Adherence to School Policy: Follow all school rules, including specific policies set by teachers, and cooperate with the entire school staff.
- Confidentiality and Safety: Maintain the privacy of students and report any safety issues to the building principal.
- Respect for Authority: Show respect for the authority of school personnel and follow directives.
- Punctuality and Communication: Be on time for your scheduled shifts and notify the school if you will not be able to attend.
- Safety in Interactions: Treat students, staff, and community members with respect, follow all policies in the Volunteer Handbook for appropriate interactions with students.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid form of identification, provide a recent physician’s certificate of Tuberculosis Screening, and submit to a Virginia Department of Social Services Central Registry Check and a Fingerprint Background Check. Must agree to abide by all policies and procedures of Franklin City Public Schools.
