The Vision Specialist is responsible for delivering vision services to the assigned caseload at the Kennedy Day School.

The Vision Specialist, through consultation and direct service provides expertise in the areas of functional vision assessment, skills development, the extended core curriculum and generalization of skills including community-based instruction.

The Vision specialist provides ongoing direct and indirect consultation to staff and families, develops IEPs, goals and objectives in collaboration with the TEAM and provides regular trainings throughout the year.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Indicates Essential Job Function – primary responsibilities an employee must perform, with or without reasonable accommodations. List up to six essential functions of the position, in order of importance, and the approximate time spent on each over the course of the year.

Provide direct, indirect and consultation vision services for assigned caseload.

Ensure registration of all students with the Accessible Instructional Materials Library and as appropriate the New England Consortium of Deafblindness.

Provide ongoing training and materials adaptation to TEAMs and students on assigned caseload as well as supporting program wide training.

Ensure DESE compliance with the educational trainer.

Conduct functional vision & learning media assessments as part of eligibility, re-eligibility determination and for changes in status.

Complete student IEPs, develop measurable goals, objectives and benchmarks.

Collect and analyze student data to report on quarterly progress.

Meet all designated IEP, assessment and other related requirements within designated timelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a master’s degree in a related field (Deafblind specialization, Vision).

DESE License Teacher of the Visually Impaired (or eligible to become licensed)

Minimum of 1-year prior experience providing direct and indirect vision related services to students and/or young adults with extensive support needs.

Pay: $90.00 - $120.00 per hour
