Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the School currently enrolls 940 students and employs over 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative and experienced educator in the field of English to join our faculty in the Upper School, covering a leave of absence. Responsibilities include teaching three (3) sections of American Literature and one (1) elective course, Black Voice in America, serving as an advisor, and facilitating our Civic Lab program. There are also opportunities to serve as a coach or club sponsor.
Required Qualifications:
- B.A. in English or Secondary English Education required; M.A. or Ph.D. preferred
- At least three (3) years of high school English classroom experience
- An affinity for working with mid-adolescents across grade levels and varied learning styles; adept at employing differentiated learning strategies to meet a range of academic needs
- Strong experience with writing instruction; an ability to teach students fundamentals of essay writing while also encouraging students to develop their own voice and unique writing style
- Experience with collaborative, cross-disciplinary curriculum development and a willingness to approach departmental and divisional tasks in a collegial manner.
- Commitment to progressive education
- Demonstrated record of developing ones own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in personal practice and curriculum
- Demonstrated commitment to community work and social justice projects
- Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence
Compensation:
Salary Range: $70,022 - $133,748; Salary will be prorated based on number of school days worked.
Faculty positions are paid on a step-level salary scale, commensurate with background and years of experience. Francis W.
