Pay for Retirees
- Retirees returning to substitute in their former non-certified position will be paid their hourly rate at the time of retirement.
- Retirees substituting in a position from which they did not retire will be paid according to the standard substitute rate schedule.
The Substitute Custodian is responsible for supporting building cleanliness and safety by performing a variety of custodial duties on an as-needed basis. The goal of this position is to ensure that school facilities remain clean, safe, and orderly so that students and staff can focus on teaching and learning without disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and other areas as needed.
- Refill soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other hygiene supplies.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling.
- Secure buildings by locking doors and windows and ensuring all equipment is turned off as needed.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events and activities.
- Respond to immediate cleaning needs such as spills, accidents, or weather-related debris.
- Operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and buffers safely and efficiently.
- Follow all safety protocols and cleaning procedures to ensure a sanitary and hazard-free environment.
- Report maintenance needs, safety concerns, or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and the public.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the standards and values of the district.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, lifting, bending, and operating equipment.
- Availability to work on an on-call basis, including early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends.
- Willingness to accept assignments at various school sites throughout the district.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but not required.
- Must pass an FBI criminal history background check with fingerprinting.
- This is a substitute, non-benefit-eligible position.
- Work assignments are temporary and scheduled based on district needs.
