Job Summary
The Bus Monitor assists students with special needs during transport to and from school and/or activities. This role ensures the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles and supports the overall safety of students during loading, transit, and unloading.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Assistance: Assist students with special needs and other passengers, ensuring safe loading and unloading during both routine and emergency situations.
- Behavioral Management: Instruct students to enforce rules and regulations, maintaining their safety and well-being.
- Monitoring: Supervise students' needs until they are released to a teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc., ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Incident Reporting: Prepare reports (e.g., incident reports, passenger misconduct) to document activities and comply with established guidelines.
- Emergency Preparedness: Secure students and their equipment (e.g., restraints, wheelchair tie-downs, seat belts) to ensure their safety.
- Training and Development: Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather necessary information for job performance.
- Other Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Job-related experience is desired.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Operating equipment used in transporting students with special needs.
- Adherence to safety practices.
- Basic math.
- Understanding written procedures.
- Safety practices and procedures.
- Schedule activities, meetings, and events.
- Work with a wide diversity of individuals.
- Solve practical problems with data and equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team.
