What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician II - Fashion Design and Retailing position at Framingham State University?
Specific responsibilities of this position include:
- Assist professors in beginning apparel construction classes (FSHD140 Principles of Apparel Construction and FSHD230 Advanced Apparel Construction).
- Assist professors in textile classes (FSHN120 Consumer Textiles, FSHN254 Advanced Textiles, and FSHD355 Fabric Structure and Design) as needed.
- At the start of each semester, ensure all design studio and textile classrooms are fully operational with all equipment in working order. Maintain equipment daily.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all design studio and textile classrooms according to established standards and procedures.
- Purchase supplies and equipment for design and textile classes, maintain inventory, and re-order as needed.
- Maintain efficient operation of laboratory equipment in two design studios and two textile classrooms.
- Provide regular ongoing support for the Costume and Textiles Resource Center including collection upkeep and organization.
- Maintain co-departmental petty cash.
- Assist faculty and staff with special projects as needed.
This position is generally governed by the Laboratory Technician classification specifications.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in related work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher in a related field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
II. The successful completion of one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, education toward a degree in a related field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
III. The successful completion of training in a recognized school course in textile science or technologies may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Intermediate to advanced apparel construction skills.
- Experience with home and industrial sewing machines.
- Historic preservation knowledge and interest in learning preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to develop an appropriate schedule to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to interact well with a variety of personnel.
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills.
- Ability to be flexible and work independently.
Additional Information:
This is a 30-hour/week, 40-week/year (September-May), benefited union position. The biweekly salary is $1,849.82 during weeks worked. The weekly schedule is Monday through Thursday.
