POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Business Intelligence Analyst develops and maintains reporting and analytics solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role creates dashboards, reports, and visualizations using the Microsoft ecosystem (Power BI, Fabric) while working with data that has been prepared by the Data Engineering team. The position requires strong technical skills, the ability to work independently on complex projects, and a commitment to maintaining comprehensive documentation of all solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Reporting & Visualization Development

  • Designs, develops, and maintains reports, dashboards, and visualizations in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
  • Creates and optimizes semantic models (formerly known as datasets) in Power BI to support self-service analytics
  • Builds sophisticated interactive dashboards that meet complex business requirements and follow UX best practices
  • Implements and manages Row Level Security (RLS) and user access controls across multiple organizational levels
  • Optimizes report performance, troubleshoots issues, and ensures scalability for global user base
  • Maintains and enhances existing dashboards based on evolving business needs
  • Provides technical guidance on Power BI best practices to team members and stakeholders

Data Analysis & Quality Assurance

  • Develops complex DAX measures and calculated columns to support advanced business metrics and KPIs
  • Writes optimized SQL queries to extract and analyze data from the data warehouse
  • Validates data accuracy in reports by performing comprehensive data reconciliation and quality checks
  • Identifies and reports data discrepancies or anomalies to the Data Engineering team with detailed analysis
  • Defines data requirements and business logic for new reporting initiatives
  • Tests reports thoroughly before deployment to ensure accuracy, performance, and functionality across various scenarios

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Creates and maintains comprehensive technical documentation for all developed reports, dashboards, and semantic models
  • Documents data sources, relationships, DAX measures, calculations, business logic, and data lineage for each solution
  • Develops detailed user guides, training materials, and quick reference documentation for end users
  • Maintains a centralized repository of reusable DAX measures, design patterns, and solutions with descriptions and usage examples
  • Documents troubleshooting procedures, resolution steps, and known issues
  • Updates documentation promptly when changes are made to existing reports or data models
  • Contributes to and helps maintain team knowledge base, standards, and best practices documentation
  • Ensures all documentation is clear, accurate, and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Establishes documentation standards and templates for consistency across the team

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Works directly with business stakeholders across global offices to gather requirements and understand analytical needs
  • Translates complex business requirements into functional technical specifications and dashboard designs
  • Conducts user training sessions and creates comprehensive documentation for deployed solutions
  • Provides expert-level support to report users and troubleshoots complex issues
  • Responds to emails and Teams messages within same business day (within 8 hours during working hours)
  • Maintains consistent follow-up on assigned tasks and proactively communicates status updates, risks, and blockers
  • Participates in and may lead team meetings, contributing ideas for process improvements
  • Manages multiple stakeholder relationships and competing priorities effectively

Technical Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Stays current with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI features, and industry trends through continuous learning
  • Evaluates and recommends new tools, features, and approaches to improve BI capabilities
  • Identifies opportunities for automation, standardization, and efficiency improvements
  • Develops reusable components, templates, and frameworks to accelerate delivery
  • Participates in peer reviews and provides constructive feedback on others' work
  • Contributes to the development and enforcement of BI standards and governance policies
  • May mentor junior team members on technical skills and best practices
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or related field
  • Master's degree or relevant advanced certifications preferred

Work Related

  • 3-5 years of related experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or related field
  • Proven experience developing complex Power BI solutions in enterprise environments
  • Strong background in data analysis and translating business requirements into technical solutions
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, Fabric) and on-premises systems
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining technical documentation
  • Experience supporting global or multi-site organizations preferred
  • Experience with logistics, supply chain, or freight forwarding systems (such as CargoWise) is a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Microsoft Fabric
  • Expert-level SQL skills for complex queries, optimization, and data analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) including complex measures, time intelligence, and optimization techniques
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, star schema design, and dimensional modeling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including Power Query and advanced analytics functions
  • Deep familiarity with Microsoft Fabric components (Workspace, Lakehouse, Semantic Models, Data Warehouse)
  • Solid understanding of data warehouse concepts (fact tables, dimension tables, medallion architecture)
  • Experience with version control and deployment practices for BI solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Ability to learn new technical tools and platforms quickly
  • Excellent technical writing skills for creating clear, comprehensive documentation

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
