Responsibilities
- Set up CNC lathe machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and programming parameters according to blueprints and technical specifications.
- Program CNC lathes using CNC programming languages and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software to produce precise parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to ensure accurate machining processes.
- Operate CNC lathes safely and efficiently, monitoring machine performance throughout production runs.
- Conduct quality checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to verify dimensions.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment and troubleshoot issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Maintain detailed documentation of setups, adjustments, inspections, and production logs in compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members on tooling selection, fixture setup, and process improvements following lean manufacturing principles.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating and setting up CNC lathes or similar machining equipment; experience with CNC milling machines is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as Fanuc or similar control systems.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and applying GD&T standards for precise measurements.
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of tooling, fixtures, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and basic machine maintenance.
- Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like SolidWorks or general CAD tools for interpreting technical drawings.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines accurately.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to machining tolerances and measurements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastics injection molding or welding is advantageous but not required.
- Physical ability to handle hand tools, power tools, tooling components, and operate forklifts when necessary.
- Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
