PhytoSmart is seeking a motivated candidate with a background in biology, chemistry, or engineering to operate a pilot-scale micro-algal culture system. This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver interested in bioprocess optimization and the transition from pilot research to full-scale production.
Summary
Working under the direction of the Operations Director, you will manage daily operations for our research laboratory and heterotrophic algal culture system at TechPlace. You will play a key role in the design and implementation of growth trials focused on scaling our production capabilities.

Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Engineering, Biology, Chemistry) OR 2–4 years of experience in a related industry (bio-pharmaceutical, aquaculture, bioprocess engineering, or microbiology).
Desired Skills & Experience
While we are looking for the right foundational fit, preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:
- Laboratory Proficiency: Familiarity with sterile techniques and the operation of standard equipment (balances, centrifuges, autoclaves, pH/DO meters).
- Culture Management: Experience with algal culture, fermentation, or strain maintenance.
- Technical Maintenance: Hands-on skills in CPVC plumbing or maintaining life support systems (air compressors, water pumps, and filtration).
- Scale-up Operations: Experience with the setup and operation of fermentation equipment and instrumentation.
- Analytical Design: Knowledge of "Design of Experiments" (DOE) and data presentation.
Job Details
- Type: Full-time, Salaried.
- Compensation: $40,000 - $43,000, Commensurate with experience.
- Schedule: Typical 40-hour work week; however, occasional work over weekends and holidays is required to maintain biological systems.
