Position Purpose
Lead and develop purchasing practices that are efficient and effective, pertaining to current product and direct purchases.
Essential Functions
- Vendor management: costing, setting up lead times, payables, quality, and negotiating terms
- Ensure parts meet company specifications
- Signing authority for buyers
- Coordinate costs with division locations for bulk buying
- Inventory reporting
- Run speed and variable reports
- Manage the continuous improvement of the supply base, working with commodity managers to improve service and quality performance
- Manage the development and maintenance of manufacturing processes and technologies to support zero defects, ensure on-time delivery, and maintain cost competitiveness
- Provide information to facilitate the coordination of overall organization distribution and customer service functions; collect information on present and future distribution needs
- Ensure quality objectives are met and take timely corrective action when objectives are not achieved
- Maintain and reinforce positive working relationships at all levels of the organization
- Utilize MRP system for forecasting
- Perform all related duties as assigned by management
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree required
- APICS certification preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- Five to ten years of experience in an automotive/manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with and experience in a TS-16949 or other quality-regulated manufacturing environment
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to use MRP system preferred
- Ability to manage others required
Physical Demands
- Standing, lifting, repetitive tasks, and possible travel
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold while in the plant
Behavioral Traits
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
