Role Summary
Free People Movement is seeking a Temporary Design Assistant to support our Performance Design Team!
The Design Assistant’s primary responsibility is to support in facilitating the development process of private label & market developments as directed in both creative and administrative functions. This is an entry level Design opportunity for a 3 month period, starting Spring 2025.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain an active role in the weekly Design Flow Meetings. Take notes and manage follow up communication on all outstanding issues as directed by the Design team.
- Execute specific design development projects as assigned by Designer and manage development and execution of trim and artwork packages.
- Set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Design Lead & follow-up communication as needed.
- Partner with PD on the status of styles in development daily to ensure product execution meets design specifications and are on track in style development process.
- Assist in completing technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs, set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Designer with market developments as well as follow-up communication as needed.
- Prepare development packages and participate in follow up communication related to each package.
- Review incoming garments with Designer and PD partners to ensure they are correct and in line with original intent as well as brand standards.
- Assist in sample preparation for monthly sales review meetings by collaborating with Designer on innovative presentations that effectively communicate line to Buyers and Brand leaders.
- Support in executing original design ideas through draped & sewn mocks in preparation for key meetings.
- Perform special tasks as needed such as but not limited to: cataloging fabrics, creative research, taking notes in fittings, sample management and other administration tasks.
Required Skills:
- Design tools: Procreate, Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Sewing, draping, mocking experience
- Experience putting together artwork and embellishment packages preferred
- Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers and other Cross Functional partners.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to intuitively respond and reprioritize as needs shift during the development process.
Role Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design preferred.
- Entry level technical knowledge of apparel construction.
- Entry level knowledge of fabric treatments as well as wash and dye techniques.
- Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via computer program.
- Ability to clearly communicate.
- Proactive and collaborative.
- Ability to work in the office 4-5 days per week in Philadelphia, PA
