What are the responsibilities and job description for the Datacenter Technician position at Foxys IT Services?
We are seeking Data Center Technicians to support on-site data center operations across Richmond, VA. This role is hands-on and operational, focused on physical infrastructure support, working closely with data center engineers to ensure reliability, availability, and proper maintenance of critical hardware environments.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced data center environment, performing physical tasks, following procedures, and escalating issues appropriately.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support data center engineers with on-site physical deployments
- Perform racking, stacking, labeling, and cabling of servers, network devices, power distribution units (PDUs), and switches
- Replace and install server components, including: CPUs, RAM, Storage drives, System boards and other FRUs
- Perform basic hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting following internal SLAs
- Execute break/fix activities and component swaps as required
- Work through assigned tickets and work requests efficiently
- Accurately document actions taken and updates within ticketing systems
- Escalate issues to senior technicians or engineers when required
- Assist in troubleshooting issues related to: Hardware failures, Network connectivity, Linux operating system at a basic level
- Submit RMAs with hardware vendors and manufacturers
- Coordinate shipping and receiving of equipment to and from vendors and remote locations
- Track replacements and ensure timely resolution of hardware incidents
- Assist with asset management activities
- Track, monitor, and update inventory of data center hardware and components
- Ensure accurate records for installed, spare, and decommissioned equipment
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with servers, hardware, or networking is preferred but not mandatory
- Strong knowledge in data center infrastructure, hardware, and networking
- Basic understanding in Linux operating systems
- Ability to logically analyze and troubleshoot technical problems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to receive guidance from senior engineers and technicians
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
- Valid driver’s license and comfort with driving between sites if required
- Comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment
