Contract Accompanist

Job Overview: The Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship ("the Fellowship") is hiring for the position of Sunday morning piano accompanist. The Fellowship accompanist will report to our co-ministers, and work with them along with our music coordinator and lay musicians to provide accompaniment to congregational singing, and piano support for choir, and other musical ensembles during rehearsal and performance.

Start Date: June 1, 2026.

Experience: Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience in piano accompaniment, in a congregational setting preferred but not required. Applicants should possess strong piano or keyboard skills, and the ability to fluently read sheet music.

Pay Rate: Upon hiring, a rate of payment will be agreed upon by the accompanist and co-ministers and included in the contract. Rate of payment is per Sunday and is dependent on experience level. For summer Sundays, the pay range is $100-200 per Sunday. For program year Sundays, the pay range is $200-300 per Sunday. (See below for details of Sunday hours). This is an hourly independent contractor (1099) position, ranging from 5-10 hours per week including preparation time. Accompanist will be informed of hymns and other music at least four days prior to the scheduled date of service, to allow for preparation and practice.

Schedule:

• In the summer (approximately June through August), we have a single service at 10:00 am. Accompanist should arrive by 9:30 am and stay until 11:30 am.
• During the program year (approximately September through May), we have two services at 9:00 and 11:00 am, with choir rehearsal most Sundays at 10:00. Accompanist should arrive by 8:30 am and stay until 12:30 pm.
• Other events, such as weddings, memorial services, or congregational events, will be scheduled as they arise, dependent on accompanists' availability. Compensation will be negotiated based on the requirements for the event within the pay range stated above.
