This position provides critical payroll functions, meeting strict deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy in a high-volume environment. This position computes, disburses wages, deductions, taxes, and other withholdings, posts payroll data and prepares reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance companies, and others.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepare payrolls for all employees. Receive, review, and analyze accuracy of all payroll data. Develop and maintain a variety of payroll spreadsheets and queries for analysis, reconciliation, and informational purposes.
Complete all stages of payroll processing using Human Resource, Finance, and Student systems. Review the results of each process for accuracy, troubleshoot any errors, and make corrections to allow for successful timely completion of each payroll.
Setup payroll deductions and wage assignments in system. Process Unemployment Insurance inquiries. Maintain and update general ledger combination codes for each contract and non-union employee.
Research, troubleshoot, and correct payroll related problems. Prepare required journal entries and payroll adjustments in Finance system. Adjust employee balance tables for errors, voids, and overpayments.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Additional Pay system. Assist adjunct faculty in understanding the Additional Pay system, the adjunct faculty pay schedule, and the adjunct faculty pay process. Work closely with the class originators and technical operation specialists to effectively use and troubleshoot the system.
Apply federal, multi-state and local tax rules to payroll operations to ensure regulatory compliance. Prepare, send, and audit federal, state and local taxes on a per payday, quarterly, and year-end basis with Third Party Tax Administrator. Annually prepare and distribute W-2 forms and all related reports.
Maintain Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) data for each employee ensuring that the district is complying with WRS guidelines. This includes the determination of eligibility for all employees. Process terminations, category changes, disbursement of funds to WRS and prepare monthly and annual reports.
Reconcile payroll-related general ledger and WRS.
Answers employee questions related to payroll and resolves issues.
Assist employees with 403(b) and 457 retirement plans. Compile data, prepare reports, and schedule payments to appropriate retirement plan administrators.
Test payroll system updates prior to implementation into live system. Test Third Party Administrator’s Quarterly Interface updates.
Prepare and process payroll for Canadian employee including currency conversion in two distinct systems. Coordinates with Third Party payroll vendor for payment of Canadian earnings and the processing of US earnings shadow payroll.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist with annual college financial audit and unemployment compensation audit as required.
Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications, Training and Experience
Associate Degree in Accounting or related area, AND
Three years of practical payroll work experience in a large, complex organization, AND
Advanced Excel and Basic Word skills are required. OR
An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.
FPC or CPP certification is preferred.
Experience working with Workday Payroll Related Modules is preferred.
