NATURAL AREA TECHNICIAN

FACILITY: Greenhouse - 259 S Russell Ave, Aurora, IL 60506 is home base; work at various locations
LOCATION: Aurora, IL
HOURS: Monday - Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm, some weekends and occasional overtime may be necessary.
RATE: $15.00/hour - minimum starting rate
TYPE: Part-Time/Seasonal

QUALIFICATIONS
Individual must be age 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer candidate to have college course work in biology, environmental studies or similar with some applicable work experience. Must have a valid IL driver’s license with knowledge of the Fox Valley Park District coverage area highly desired. Successful candidate should be able to identify local native flora and be familiar with woodland, prairie, and wetland communities. Individual must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Individual must have an IL pesticide license or be willing to obtain license within 30 days of hire date. Experience with hand and power tools is a plus. Will be required to pass pre-employment physical with drug screen.
DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Horticulture Supervisor the Natural Area Technician is responsible for assisting with the control of exotic plant species, seed harvesting, planting, monitoring plants and on-going restoration projects. Individual must be able to work well independently with little supervision and as a team member on a crew. Control methods for exotics will be mechanical and chemical. Projects will include vegetation inventories, plant identification, and site mapping. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. This is an at-will position.
