About the Role
The Kindergarten Teacher will guide and support students in a traditional Montessori mixed-age classroom serving children ages 4–7. Our Casa classroom is intentionally small, with a class size of approximately 8–15 students, allowing for meaningful relationships, more one-on-one guidance, and highly individualized learning experiences. In this environment, the teacher fosters independence, curiosity, and confidence while supporting each child’s individual developmental path. The role includes preparing and maintaining a thoughtfully organized classroom, presenting Montessori materials across curriculum areas, and encouraging peer learning and leadership within the mixed-age community. The teacher will also collaborate with colleagues and build strong, supportive relationships with families.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide and support children ages 4–7 in a Montessori classroom environment
- Implement Montessori curriculum across language, mathematics, cultural studies, and practical life
- Plan & Implement FVMA's monthly curriculum themes
- Observe and assess student development and progress
- Send weekly messages to the families informing them of activities, student progress, and educating families on Montessori materials used in the classroom
- Host parent-teacher conferences twice per school year
- Foster a calm, respectful classroom community
- Communicate regularly and positively with families
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and school leadership
Qualifications
- Montessori certification for Early Childhood/Primary preferred
- Wisconsin State teaching license (or ability to obtain one)
- Experience working with preschool/kindergarten children
- Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy and classroom practices
- Warm, patient, and collaborative approach with children and colleagues
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
