What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Swim Coach position at Fox Valley Family YMCA?
The Fox Valley Family YMCA is seeking an energetic, positive, and motivated Assistant Swim Coach to join our competitive swim program. Under the direction of the Head Swim Coach, this position helps lead swimmers of all ages and abilities in developing their skills, teamwork, and confidence—both in and out of the pool.
We’re looking for a coach who believes in the Y’s mission of building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, and who brings enthusiasm, integrity, and a growth mindset to every practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in leading daily swim practices, dry-land training sessions, and strength/conditioning programs for youth swimmers.
- Support the Head Coach in planning practices, workouts, and meet lineups to foster continual improvement.
- Provide direct instruction and feedback to swimmers in alignment with YMCA and USA Swimming standards.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented culture that emphasizes sportsmanship and personal growth.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed on deck, in the pool, and during dry-land training.
- Help organize and supervise team events, swim meets, and parent communications.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, achievements, and swimmer progress.
- Serve as a role model of professionalism, enthusiasm, and the YMCA’s core values.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 18 (or 16 for Junior Assistant Coach).
- Current or ability to obtain within 30 days: YMCA and/or USA Swimming Coach credentials.
- Dry Land and/or Personal Training experience preferred (background in fitness, exercise science, or coaching a plus).
- Knowledge of proper swimming techniques, stroke development, and conditioning methods.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with swimmers, parents, and staff.
- Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain).

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
