Job Title: Facilities Technician
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Brief Description: This part-time position has flexible hours and provides the opportunity to work in a variety of maintenance and grounds areas - including the use of various equipment. Facilities Technicians are primarily responsible for conducting basic maintenance and repairs throughout the facility.
Fox Valley Christian Action partners with the local church in discipling people in the under-resourced communities of the Fox River Valley into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ! Since 1977 FVCA has served children and families in low-income communities in Elgin, Carpentersville, and Aurora. The school districts serving these communities identify 46,000 children coming from low-income families within 15 miles of our campus. We have an 85 acre Christian camp and conference center where we provide a completely free overnight summer camp and weekly after-school programs for children and teenagers from our local communities.

Qualifications:
- Reliable, resourceful, self-motivated, team oriented, can work with a wide range of people and backgrounds
- Hold a valid US Driver’s License
- Must have basic repair and maintenance experience
- Able to operate equipment such as skid steer, tractor, forklift, plow truck, scissor lift etc
Physical requirements
- May have to lift up to 100 lbs. and do other physical tasks such as pushing, squatting, kneeling, climbing, etc.
- This position may require the staff person to work out of doors, which includes exposure to various changes in weather (heat, cold, rain, snow). May also be in contact with chemicals.
Position Responsibilities: Our 85-acre facility includes 15 buildings, 11 vehicles, maintenance equipment and utility systems. Facilities Technicians are responsible for assisting with care and maintenance of all assets throughout the property.
- Attends required meetings.
- Meets weekly with supervisor at a regularly-scheduled time to receive projects, report on progress and discuss goals, issues and problems.
- Meets with the supervisor once every six months for an appraisal and review session.
- Attends quarterly all-staff training days as posted.
- Maintain buildings in accordance with standards, specifically.
- All lighting in the building should be kept 100% operational; burned-out bulbs are to be replaced within 48 hours of notification.
- Bathrooms should be kept 100% operational; reported breakdowns repaired within 5 days.
- Building structures (doors, windows, siding, paint) should be maintained in accordance with "clean, safe and sanitary" standards. Repairs to building structures should be accomplished within 30 days of the reported problem.
- All buildings should be inspected monthly on or before the 10th working day. The inspector should identify needed repairs (work orders to be prepared as needed), fire alarm working, plus additional items noted on the inspection form.
- Maintain grounds in accordance with "clean, safe and sanitary" standards.
- Roads
- Snow on the main road should be plowed by 8:30 a.m. the morning after a snow; by 4:30 p.m. on days when it snows during the day.
- Potholes should be filled and graded.
- Trails
- Trails should be cleared annually to a width of 6 feet
- Trees and branches obstructing the trail should be cleared monthly.
- Trail markers should be repainted and repaired as needed.
- Riverfront, boat docks and loading ramps.
- Monthly clean driftwood and trash from the riverbank.
- Trim overhanging branches and shrubs monthly between Apr and Oct.
- Clean driftwood and trash from the pontoon dock monthly.

- Lawns
- Between May and Sep all lawn areas should be mowed weekly, as needed.
- A final fall mowing once leaves are raked fully and before the first snow.
- Bare areas should be seeded annually and watered weekly until established.
- Fall leaves should be mulched or raked at least twice: 1) by the end of Oct; and 2) before the 15th of Nov.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in accordance with "clean, safe and secure" standards.
- Vehicles and tractors
- Each vehicle should have oil & filter changed, chassis lubricated and all fluid levels checked every 3 months or 3000 miles, whichever is first.

- Each vehicle should be test-driven monthly to detect any potential issues.
- When required by law, obtain annual or semi-annual inspections by the 15th of the month in which they are due.
- Reported mechanical failures are to be corrected within 5 working days.
- Equipment (power and manual)
- Power equipment should be inspected bi-monthly for cleanliness and proper operation
- Each piece of equipment should have an assigned storage place and should be returned to storage after each use.
- Reported malfunctions should be corrected within 5 working days
- Equipment should be cleaned, inspected and lubricated at least monthly. At this time, blades or chains should be sharpened
- Maintain Central Water and Wastewater Systems.
- Water System
- Send water samples to the State within 4 days of receiving the test bottle.
- Check plumbing for watertight operation monthly.
- During winter months, maintain temperature in operational buildings at 55 degrees; check weekly.
- Water system problems should be corrected within 48 hours of discovery.
- Waste water system.
- Check and record water level in lagoon daily and pump run hours weekly.
- Maintain the system in accordance with the Operating Manual.

- Update electronic maintenance records as work is completed.
- Maintain the shop in a professional manner.
- All tools are assigned in a storage area and returned after each use.
- Tools and equipment are to be cleaned after each use
- Floors must be swept and all debris removed weekly.
- Work benches should be cleaned and swept weekly.
- Broken tools and equipment are to be repaired within 5 days.
- Tools that are irreparable must be discarded and replaced.
- Maintain a parts inventory of most used items.
- Occasional Housekeeping responsibilities.
- Vacuum offices and clean bathrooms weekly.
- Empty office trash cans weekly.
- Thoroughly clean offices each week.
- Other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the Facilities Manager.
- Participates in cross-departmental activities when available and upon supervisor's approval.
- Attends the annual banquet, and helps in fund raising plans.
