K-4 Music Teacher

Algonquin Road School in Fox River Grove School District 3 seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades Kindergarten- 4th Grade and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction for the 2022-23 school year. The ideal candidate will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, and listening. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:  

• Teaches general music to Kindergarten- 4th grade including harmony, appreciation, and history.
• Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
• Provides opportunities for music ensembles.
• Differentiates the music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual students and the student body.
• Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. 
• Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
• Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
• Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
• Cooperation with Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.

This teacher will be a member of our "Specials" team.  Current average class size for 2022-23 will be 20-24 students.  Algonquin Road School is a high achieving, student focused learning environment. During the summers of 2019 and 2020, District 3 refreshed all educational spaces and updated our music room. In addition, a brand new front office security wing, a new STEM lab, elementary playground with Ninja Warrior Course and Collaborative Learning Center were ready for the 2020-21 school year.  All District 3 students have access to a Chromebook.  Total enrollment in District 3 PreK - 8th grade is approximately 410 students.
