Residential Construction Estimator

The Estimator plays a critical role within Fox Home Innovations (FHI), serving as the primary resource for developing and maintaining accurate project budgets throughout the design and pre-construction process. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can work independently while collaborating effectively with designers, project managers, trade partners, and suppliers.

The Estimator is responsible for ensuring every project is accurately scoped, competitively bid, and positioned for profitability. This includes performing material takeoffs, managing trade and supplier bids, reviewing plans for constructability, and developing comprehensive project estimates. The Estimator helps bridge the gap between design and production, ensuring projects are set up for success before construction begins.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field preferred

· Minimum of three (3) years of residential construction experience

· Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and processes

· Experience preparing detailed construction estimates and budgets preferred

Knowledge & Skills

· Working knowledge of all residential construction trades

· Ability to understand basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems

· Understanding of residential building codes and construction standards

· Ability to read, interpret, and communicate through residential construction plan sets

· Strong mathematical and analytical skills for material takeoffs and cost estimating

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word

· Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software preferred

· Familiarity with Chief Architect or similar design software preferred

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities

· Professional, personable demeanor with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, trade partners, and team members

Additional Requirements

· Reliable transportation and ability to travel to jobsites, client homes, showrooms, and vendor locations as needed

· Ability to transport samples, plans, and project-related materials when necessary

Key ResponsibilitiesClient Experience

· Deliver an exceptional client experience throughout the pre-construction process

· Support designers in developing projects that align with client expectations, budget goals, and construction feasibility

· Research materials and products to meet the unique needs of each project

Estimating & Pre-Construction

· Perform site reviews and gather information necessary for accurate estimating

· Evaluate existing conditions and identify factors that may impact project scope, budget, or construction success

· Create detailed project estimates including labor, materials, trade costs, permits, and other project expenses

· Complete material takeoffs for all construction divisions

· Develop comprehensive scopes of work for trade partners and suppliers

· Solicit, review, and manage bids from subcontractors and vendors

· Verify pricing accuracy and ensure all bids align with project requirements

· Maintain current knowledge of construction methods, codes, and industry best practices

Design Collaboration

· Collaborate closely with designers throughout project development

· Provide budget guidance and pricing options during the design phase

· Meet with the client for final budget sign off to go over the final bid for approval

· Review plans for constructability, scope completeness, and cost implications

· Conduct final plan reviews prior to production handoff and provide recommendations for revisions as needed

· Assist in ensuring accurate field measurements and documentation of existing conditions

Trade & Supplier Management

· Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners and suppliers

· Manage trade partner onboarding and qualification processes

· Coordinate bid requests, estimate reviews, and project awards

· Assemble bid packages and special-order materials including:

o Windows

o Doors

o Specialty trim

o Framing packages

o Other construction materials not selected by the design team

Production Support

· Support project managers by providing complete and organized project information during handoff

· Visit jobsites as needed to verify assumptions and improve estimating accuracy

· Assist with change order pricing and cost analysis when necessary

· Continuously evaluate completed projects to improve future estimating accuracy and profitability

Sales & Marketing Support

· Participate in trade shows, home shows, and marketing events as requested

· Provide pricing guidance and budget ranges during project development

· Collaborate with the Sales and Design teams to ensure proposed projects align with construction realities and budget expectations

Administrative ResponsibilitiesGeneral

· Participate in weekly company meetings and departmental planning sessions

· Develop and refine estimating procedures to support company growth and efficiency

· Assist with the creation and maintenance of production documentation and project binders

· Provide office support and phone coverage when needed

TechnologyRIB CostX Takeoff software & Chief Architect

· Develop familiarity with company design & takeoff software

Buildertrend

· Build and maintain complete project estimates within Buildertrend

· Create and manage bid packages for all project phases

· Communicate with trade partners and suppliers regarding bidding, project awards, and project-related coordination

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
