School Psychologist

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Missouri School Psychologist Certification
2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:             Director of Pupil Services

JOB GOAL:                 To team with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.

School psychologists tailor their services to the particular needs of each child and each situation, but generally provide these core services:

1. Consultation
2. Give healthy and effective alternatives to teachers, parents, and administrators about problems in learning and behavior
3. Help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior
4. Strengthen working relationships between educators, parents, and community services
5. Assessment
6. Use a wide variety of techniques to evaluate academic skills, learning aptitudes, personality and emotional development, social skills, learning environments, and eligibility for special services
7. Intervention
8. Work face-to-face with children and families, help solve conflicts and problems in learning and adjustment, provide psychological counseling for children and families, provide social skills training, behavior management, and other strategies, and help individuals, families, and schools deal with crises such as separation and loss
9. Prevention
10. Identify potential learning difficulties, design programs for children at risk of failure, provide parents and teachers with skills to cope with disruptive behaviors, and help foster tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity in the school community
11. Education - develop programs on topics such as teaching and learning strategies, classroom management techniques, working with students who have disabilities of unusual talents, substance abuse, and crisis management
12. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
13. Complies with good safety practices.
14. Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
15. Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                                    The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:                 The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                                 Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.

RETIREMENT:                                                    Public School Retirement System (PSRS)

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:                       Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate

CLEARANCES:                                                    Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

EVALUATION:                                                 Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation process.
