JOB DESCRIPTION
The General Education School Social Worker provides prevention, early intervention, and direct support services to grades 6-8 students experiencing barriers that interfere with school success. The School Social Worker collaborates with students, families, administrators, teachers, and community agencies to identify student needs, develop appropriate supports, provide individual and group interventions, and connect families with community-based resources.

 

The position supports the district’s multi-tiered system of support. Services are primarily intended to support students within the general education setting. This position is funded using At Risk (Grant) funding.

Required Education/Certification

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Michigan Limited Licensed Master Social Worker (LLMSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) credential.
  • Current Michigan school social worker credential.
  • Ability to meet all applicable state licensing, credentialing, and continuing education requirements.
  • Successful completion of required criminal background checks.

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Experience providing school-based social work, counseling, crisis intervention, and family support services to students in grades 6–8.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, evidence-based behavioral and student well-being practices, MTSS, PBIS, attendance interventions, and student support planning.
  • Knowledge of community mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, housing, food assistance, and family support resources.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school personnel, multidisciplinary teams, and community agencies.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, confidentiality, and professional judgment skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Reports to the Junior High building principal.
  • Works closely with the building principal and school teams to identify student needs and coordinate appropriate interventions and supports.
  • Provides individual, small-group, family, and crisis intervention services addressing barriers related to behavior, attendance, engagement, relationships, and academic success.
  • Consults with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families regarding evidence-based student supports.
  • Participates in MTSS, PBIS, attendance, behavior, and student support teams.
  • Assesses student needs, develops measurable support plans, and monitors student progress in collaboration with students, families, staff, and outside providers.
  • Provides crisis assessment, safety planning, intervention, and follow-up support in accordance with district procedures.
  • Connects students and families with appropriate community agencies, healthcare providers, and social services and assists with coordinating services.
  • Supports staff in understanding student behavior and selecting appropriate strategies, accommodations, and interventions.
  • Promotes family engagement and communicates with parents or guardians regarding student needs, services, progress, and available resources.
  • Provides staff training and professional learning as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with legal, professional, and district requirements.
  • Participates in ongoing professional learning and demonstrates professionalism, dependability, flexibility, and a student-centered approach.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary : $45,967 - $88,525
