Session Dates:

  • Session A: June 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26

  • Session B: July 29, 30, 31, August 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14

Teacher Preparation Days:

  • June 9 - 4 hours

  • August 15 - 4 hours

Hours:

  • Student Hours: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

  • Teacher Hours: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Staffing Requirements:

  • Number of Teachers Needed per Session: 2

Certification Requirements: BA certified for ELA or EX certified for Math

 

APPENDIX G

ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

The parties mutually recognize Alternative Education Programs as those that use distance learning instruction via a certified teacher and the internet, such as the Fowlerville Online Learning Academy or programs that utilize educational software/internet to deliver content such as credit recovery and certain summer school classes.

 

The parties mutually recognize that in programs that use virtual learning options, such as Credit Recovery, the role of the adult supervisor will be classified as Mentor in accordance to the Michigan Pupil Accounting Manual.  As such, the parties agree that the following conditions shall apply to on-site mentors and mentors within such programs.

 

In the case of a student with an IEP, a certified Special Education teacher will provide instructional support to meet the IEP goals and accommodations as part of their teaching responsibilities. If such support is provided outside of the school day,the Special Education teacher will be paid the curriculum rate ($50/hour).

 

Section 1: Mentors

Each program class period that utilizes educational software/internet to deliver course content shall have a certified district teacher acting in the capacity of "on-site mentor" (mentor). Such mentors shall be certified teachers employed by the Board with knowledge of computers.

  • Responsibilities of mentors shall include, if needed: Maintaining order in the classroom, monitoring the students' work, giving assistance      to student(s) as they complete the assessment or assignment through the learning platform and administering assessments that are part of the course. The mentor shall not be responsible for creating lesson plans or
  • Cancelation of mentoring or assessment due to technical problems shall not result in the loss of compensation.
  • Bargaining unit members assigned to mentor positions during the regular school day in an alternative education program shall be placed on the regular salary schedule (Appendix A).
  • A mentor shall be assigned for everyone hundred (100) students enrolled in the alternative education program.
  • Before and after the summer school operates, mentors will work three (3) additional hours in order to coordinate student attendance.

Bargaining unit members who are assigned a mentor position or Credit Recovery (including High School Summer School) outside of the regular school day or school year in addition to their regular teaching duties shall be compensated at the curriculum rate of $50/hour.
