Managing Lawyer – Head of Client Services

Fourscore Business Law
Raleigh, NC Full Time
POSTED ON 10/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/26/2027

In-Office Expectations:

This is a hybrid role. We expect team members to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to support collaboration, deal work, and team connection. Mondays and Fridays are intentionally flexible and may be worked remotely, subject to client needs, deal timelines, and occasional exceptions.

Overview:

Fourscore Business Law is seeking an experienced Managing Lawyer to lead our Raleigh office. The Managing Lawyer will serve as Head of Client Services for Raleigh and will own the performance of the Raleigh office, including responsibility for its profit and loss (P&L), and will share in the upside as the office’s profitability grows.

This is a leadership role for an attorney who cares about excellent legal work, developing a strong, accountable, client-focused team, and building a well-run, profitable office. The Managing Lawyer will provide leadership and mentorship to our attorneys and paralegals, oversee the quality and delivery of legal services, and help maintain a consistently high standard of client service across the firm.

The Managing Lawyer will also partner closely with our Client Experience Manager to manage team workloads and priorities, identify where additional support is needed, and keep client matters moving forward.

This person will serve on the firm’s leadership team, working directly with our Founder, as the firm continues to grow. We’re looking for someone who is a strong attorney, a natural mentor, a confident people leader, and a business-minded operator who can provide guidance, develop others, have direct conversations when needed, manage to financial results, and help build a high-performing Raleigh team.

At Fourscore, our core values are not slogans — they shape how we practice law:

•        Service Is Our Heart – We genuinely care about our clients and their businesses. We respond intentionally, think practically, and go the extra mile when it matters.

•        Just Say It – We value direct, honest communication. We say what needs to be said (to clients and to each other) clearly and respectfully.

•        Own It – We take responsibility for our work, our deadlines, and our results. No excuses. No finger-pointing.

•        Don’t Be a Suit – We take our clients more seriously than ourselves. We aim to be approachable, practical, and real.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Client Service

•        Serve as Head of Client Services for Raleigh, with ultimate ownership of client service standards and outcomes — setting expectations, reinforcing them, and stepping in when service falls short.

•        Lead and provide day-to-day guidance to the attorneys and paralegals in the Raleigh office.

•        Mentor and develop attorneys and paralegals, providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to strengthen their legal skills, judgment, client management, and professional growth.

•        Serve as a resource and sounding board for attorneys on complex legal matters, difficult client situations, and strategic decisions.

•        Conduct regular check-ins with attorneys and paralegals to discuss priorities, challenges, performance, and professional development.

•        Oversee the quality and delivery of legal work across the Raleigh office.

•        Partner with the Client Experience Manager to monitor team workloads and priorities, coordinate resources, and identify matters that are stalled, at risk, or need additional support to keep client work moving forward.

•        Hold attorneys and paralegals accountable for responsiveness, follow-through, deadlines, time entry, billing expectations, and client communication.

•        Serve as an escalation point for legal and client service issues and help attorneys and paralegals work through challenges proactively.

•        Establish and reinforce consistent standards for legal work, matter management, client communication, and service.

•        Work closely with the Founder and leadership team on attorney performance, staffing needs, capacity planning, and the continued development of the Raleigh office.

•        Continue practicing law and managing client matters as appropriate for the role.

Office P&L & Business Performance

•        Own the Raleigh office’s P&L, including revenue, collections, staffing costs, and overall profitability.

•        Work with the Founder, CFO, and Director of Operations to set annual budgets and financial targets for the office, and report on performance against them.

•        Track key office metrics — including billable hours, utilization, realization, collections, and matter profitability — and act quickly when results fall short.

•        Make recommendations on hiring, staffing, pricing, and resource allocation that support profitable growth.

•        Deepen relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities to grow the office’s work and client base.

Required Qualifications

•        Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

•        Active license to practice law in North Carolina and in good standing.

•        7 years of legal experience in a business or corporate law practice.

•        Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or developing attorneys.

•        Strong legal judgment and the ability to provide guidance on complex matters.

•        Proven ability to lead a team while managing competing client and matter priorities.

•        Strong client communication and relationship-management skills.

•        Comfortable giving feedback, having direct conversations, and holding attorneys and paralegals accountable.

•        Practical, business-minded approach to practicing law and serving clients.

•        Comfort with financial metrics and a genuine interest in owning the business results of an office; prior budget, practice-group, or P&L experience is a plus.

•        Strong organizational skills, ownership, and follow-through.

•        Collaborative leadership style and ability to work effectively across teams.

Work Structure & Flexibility

•        Core in-office collaboration days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

•        Flexibility on Mondays and Fridays, including remote work, adjusted hours, or focused deep-work time

•        Understanding that transactional work sometimes requires schedule adaptability around closings and client demands

Leadership Growth & Advancement

As a member of the leadership team, the Managing Lawyer will help shape firm strategy and operations from day one. As Fourscore expands, there is a clear path to broader firm-wide responsibility — such as overseeing additional offices, teams, or practice areas and leading firm-wide initiatives — based on performance and the firm’s needs.

What We Offer

•        High-quality, sophisticated transactional work without big-law bureaucracy

•        Direct client relationships and meaningful responsibility

•        A collaborative, values-driven firm culture

•        Competitive base compensation, with flexibility based on experience and fit

•        Performance-based incentive tied to growth in the Raleigh office’s profitability

•        A seat on the firm’s leadership team and opportunities to firm-wide leadership as Fourscore grows

If you enjoy working alongside business owners, solving complex legal and business challenges, managing sophisticated matters from start to finish, building and leading a profitable office, and playing a meaningful role in the growth of a firm, we would love to hear from you.
