Catering Captain (Lead Event Staff)

Four & Twenty Blackbirds Catering is seeking a Catering Captain to lead our event team for the upcoming wedding and event season. This is a leadership role for someone experienced in hospitality who can confidently manage staff, timelines, and client-facing service in a fast-paced, high-standard environment.
We are a well-established catering company known for thoughtful service, beautiful presentation, and seamless event execution across the Columbia Gorge. Events happen on most Fridays and Saturdays. Your availability over the nice weather months of the Gorge is required. You will split the events that are over 100 people with another Catering Captain; schedule is flexible.
Position Overview
The Catering Captain is responsible for leading on-site event execution, ensuring service runs smoothly from arrival to breakdown. You will act as the point person between kitchen, staff, and client/vendor team.
This role requires professional presence, strong communication, and the ability to stay grounded under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct event staff (servers, bartenders, support team)
- Execute event timelines and coordinate with vendors and venue staff
- Oversee setup, service flow, and breakdown to company standards
- Maintain a polished, calm, and client-facing presence at all times
- Troubleshoot issues in real time and make sound decisions independently
- Ensure team adherence to service standards, cleanliness, and professionalism
- Communicate clearly with kitchen and bar teams throughout service
Qualifications
- Prior experience in catering, events, or restaurant leadership (required)
- Proven ability to manage a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and lead without constant direction
- Professional, composed, and solution-oriented mindset
- Availability for weekends (primary event days)
- Reliable transportation
