Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems, refrigeration units, boilers, and mechanical systems using schematics, electrical diagnostics tools such as ohmmeters, and mechanical knowledge.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC equipment, including air conditioning units, ductwork, piping, electrical systems, building automation systems, and plumbing components.
- Install new HVAC systems and equipment following detailed specifications and HVAC design plans.
- Conduct system inspections to identify issues related to refrigerant leaks, electrical faults, mechanical failures, or control system malfunctions; implement effective solutions promptly.
- Utilize hand tools, welding equipment, and other specialized tools to repair or modify mechanical systems as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, including reports on repairs performed, parts used, and system performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling and environmental safety standards while performing equipment repair or maintenance.
Skills
- Extensive experience with construction projects involving HVAC system installation and property maintenance.
- Proven service technician experience with a strong understanding of HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning / Refrigeration) systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical drawings for electrical wiring and mechanical layouts.
- Knowledge of HVAC design principles to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
- Proficiency in electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters; troubleshooting electrical systems efficiently.
- Mechanical knowledge for repairing complex mechanical systems including pumps, fans, motors, valves, and ductwork.
- Experience with building automation systems that control HVAC operations for commercial properties.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for field service operations.
- Certifications such as EPA refrigerant handling certification are required; additional certifications in welding or appliance repair are advantageous.
- Must be able to travel for multiple days in fall and winter months
