Construction Superintendent

Position Overview

Under limited supervision, provides experienced daily construction oversight functions from mobilization to closeout for a large project or projects, as assigned by the Senior Construction Manager. Typical job responsibilities include project responsibility for safety and quality (supported by the Safety and Quality project teams), construction team management during direction and coordination of subcontractors and crews with assistance from supervisors, engineers, and coordinators during construction and demolition activities; monitors progress in accordance with the schedule and ensures proper management of resources; attends and/or leads subcontractor and company crew status and coordination meetings

Specific Responsibilities

• Acts as the field "eyes and ears" of construction and project management
• Capable of making critical decisions under pressure and resolving on-site challenges
• Maintains an in-depth understanding of current construction/demolition methods and Best Management Practices
• Manages scope creep and reports any potential changed conditions to the Contract Technical Representative.
• Possesses the ability to read, interpret and ensure compliance with project specifications, plans, and procedures
• Monitors resource levels to ensure the effective execution of the assigned scope of work and communicates needs to construction management
• Instructs employees on work methods as appropriate and provides clear performance expectations
• Ensures safety and quality compliance
• Provides leadership and motivation to subordinate personnel
• Serves as the primary field representative with groups inside and outside the organization, senior management, client representatives and auditors
• May be assigned special projects

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS degree in a related field or equivalent and 10 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 10 – 15 years.

Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite

Working Conditions

Work in construction, demolition or environmental restoration atmosphere (new projects, outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.).

Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively. Potential prolonged walking/standing, repeated pushing/pulling.

Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, non-repetitive, up to 50 pounds of force frequently (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person "buddy system"), and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.

Potential for prolonged driving of or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, and/or working around moving equipment/machinery or motorized vehicles (such as but not limited to car, truck, golf cart, gator, heavy equipment).

Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with potential radiation and chemical hazards.

Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.)

In some cases radiological training may be required.

May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.
