Civil Design Engineer / Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Four Points Surveying and Engineering (FPSE) is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join our growing team for a permanent, full-time position. FPSE is a leading, full-service engineering, consulting, and surveying firm in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, serving Northwest Colorado. 

We have strong relationships with a wide variety of clients across municipal, county, and state governments, as well as the private development and real estate sectors. FPSE provides creative turnkey design solutions for challenging high-alpine projects of all types, including high-end residential, mixed-use live/work, retail, and small commercial/industrial.

Starting Salary: $75,000 (Depending on experience)               

Job Description

FPSE is currently seeking a civil designer with a land development emphasis to create detailed engineering design and drafting deliverables and to provide field technician services, including construction oversight and field documentation. We are seeking candidates with specific experience or a strong interest in land development, civil infrastructure, planning, permitting, and design of civil and earthwork projects.  

Key Responsibilities

• Design and Drafting: Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to create detailed plans and designs for civil engineering projects.
• Technical Calculations: Perform calculations related to project design, including stormwater management, grading, and utility systems. 
• Project Coordination: Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, surveyors, and other specialists to ensure project goals are met.
• Fieldwork & Inspection: Perform and direct fieldwork, laboratory testing, construction oversight, and field documentation.
• Data Analysis & Compliance: Analyze existing project sites, maps, and field notes to inform design decisions while ensuring compliance with local regulations and codes.  
• Project Support: Assist with technical report preparation, project presentations, and material/labor cost estimations.
• Quality Control: Review designs for accuracy, consistency, and constructability. 

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Licensing: EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification required, with the desire and ability to obtain a Colorado P.E. license. (Current PEs are also welcome to apply.)
• AutoCAD Proficiency: Minimum 2 years of experience designing and preparing civil engineering construction drawings for commercial and/or residential sites using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, with the ability to interpret field data and resolve unique high-alpine design challenges. 
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, regulations, and standards.
• Communication & Attention to Detail: Precise and meticulous in drafting work, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
