Duties
- Develop and coordinate a diverse calendar of engaging activities focused on memory care, recreational therapy, and socialization tailored to residents’ abilities and interests
- Facilitate group and one-on-one activities that promote cognitive stimulation, physical movement, and emotional well-being
- Collaborate with nursing staff, caregivers, and family members to assess individual resident needs and preferences for personalized activity planning
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing or light grooming during programs when appropriate
- Manage activity supplies, equipment, and materials ensuring safety standards are met at all times
- Lead efforts in event planning for special occasions, holidays, or community outings that foster social engagement
- Maintain detailed records of resident participation, progress notes, and activity outcomes for reporting purposes
- Provide counseling or support related to aging issues as needed, offering empathetic communication and guidance
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living communities or nursing homes with a focus on memory care or senior care is highly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia care, and aging issues counseling
- Proven skills in event planning, recreational therapy, and working with individuals with disabilities or cognitive impairments
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage residents, staff, families, and community partners
- Experience assisting residents with ADLs and managing schedules for group activities or individual sessions
- Long-term care experience that includes home & community care settings is advantageous
- Familiarity with caregiving roles within assisted living or nursing home environments enhances success in this position
