Activity Director Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION: The Activity Director (AD) provides general oversight and has responsibility for all community activities and events. Must be capable of working a varied schedule of extended hours to include evenings, weekend and holidays based on community events other needs in accordance with this position. General goal is to work towards maintaining existing successful programs and being responsive to opportunities to expand and improve the range of Activities available to residents of Fountain of the Sun.

Responsible for management of Activities and supervision of FOSA office staff

  • Partners with the Community Manager to identify, coordinate and market all community events, programs and services.
  • Coordinate the development of content, branding, distribution, and other necessary information related to Association newsletters or other lifestyle public relations and marketing publications as assigned.
  • Oversee support staff and facilitators to ensure facilities, events, classes and customer service meets the needs of the residents.
  • Develop an active volunteer program among residents, solicit input and involvement from residents to stimulate awareness and participation.
  • Secure all entertainment, food, decorations, and items necessary to carry out events.
  • Oversee the New Resident Orientation.
  • Attend Board and committee meetings.
  • Assess overall success of events through focus groups and evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Ability to design and coordinate programs that enrich the quality of life and enhance the vibrancy and overall experience of living within an HOA Community.
  • Effective and dynamic public speaking skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills paired with high energy, initiative, and enthusiasm.
  • Computer proficiency with respect to Microsoft Office Suite, database software, internet and website portals, point of sale system, registration processes, policies and procedures, equipment, material and products, etc.
  • Ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to interact and work positively and effectively with staff, volunteers and board members at all levels.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions, changes and delays while remaining focused.
  • Ability to problem solve exercising good judgment and decision making.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust to change.

Education and/or Work Experience required
Bachelor’s degree or Certification as an Activity Director; or three or more years administering an activity program may substitute for a degree. Experience or training in working with older adults preferred with experience in developing activity programs and a calendar of monthly activities and supervising personnel. Must possess good planning, communication, organizational and computer skills.

Certifications Preferred:

  • CPR, First Aid and AED Certified.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Position involves sitting, standing, and movement throughout the day.
  • Must be able to set up and break down events as needed. Including lifting, stacking and moving tables, chairs and equipment.
  • Utilizing a computer in an office setting.
  • Capable of working extended hours, to include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Salary and Benefits
The Salary Range: $50,000 - $58,000 DOE.
The full-time employee benefits package includes medical, Simple IRA retirement, and paid time off upon completion of applicable probationary period; dental also available. Should these benefits change during your employment you will be notified.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
