Foster-Glocester Regional School District is currently accepting applications for a highly effective Long Term Substitute School Nurse, who wants to work as a collaborative member of a team in our high-performing middle school. The school building was built and opened the doors to students in September 2007. Our middle school has seven team suites (a group of five classrooms organized around a central meeting room) to support and enhance our middle school teaming. We have strong academic, art, music, unified arts, and athletic programs.The school sits on more than 50 acres of a living campus that supports learning in and out of school. Our school has built in common planning time for teachers, advisory for students, an enrichment period, and supports for students who are struggling and students who excel.
During the school year we completed a multi-year plan to purchase mobile technology (Chromebooks) for our students and staff to cultivate a blended learning environment. All students in grades 6-12 are issued a device making our middle school and high school 1:1 blended learning environments. Our teachers and students are actively using technology to support student's mastery of desired knowledge and skills. In order to enhance learning and teaching and involve parents in the education of their children our school district implemented a Learning Management System (LMS) and grade book that can be accessed by parents.
Our LMS, provides a virtual space for student and teacher collaboration and enables teachers and staff to produce digital assignments, to communicate with students and families, and to run analytics that provide information on student performance and the frequency and timeliness of their educational activity. Through sound fiscal management, our school district has been able to reallocate resources to meet student and adult needs. We have added numerous courses designed to prepare our students for college and careers. We hope that youll be the next addition to our amazing school staff TITLE: Long Term Substitute School Nurse -GOAL: The School Nurse/school nurse teacher serves as a direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of care for students. Strengthens and facilitates the educational process by modifying or removing health related barriers.
Learning is thereby enhanced for students and staff, promoting an optimal level of wellness.SUPERVISION: Works under the supervision of the school principal with latitude to exercise independent professional judgment to support the mission of the district. FUNCTION: The School Nurse upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and Rhode Island Department of Health Rules and Regulations applicable to School Health Programs that adhere to district polices and administrative guidelines. The nurse assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, management, and/or referral activities. Provides relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents and staff.
ANTICIPATED DUTIES: 1.Develops and administers population-based health services to school children in public and non-public schools in the community, and provides individualized health services to all public school children in the community in accordance with state law, regulations, and district policy that include, but are not limited to: a.Ensures health, vision, dental, hearing, etc., examinations/screenings; b.Provides direct health related services in accordance with state statute and district policy;c.Provides first aid as needed and assists emergency care givers as applicable;d.Reports and manages any school-based communicable, environmental, or occupational disease as directed by a physician and/or in accordance with Regulations;e.Develops and implements as needed individualized health care plan (IHCP) and/or an emergency care plan (ECP/ EHCP) for children with specific health care needs,f.Maintains a complete, up-to-date health record system in accordance with regulations using available technology;2.Plans and implements health and flu clinics in conjunction with state agencies;3.Monitors newly enrolled students in order to ensure that state law and district policy are implemented concerning health issues (i.e., immunization, medical records);4.Administers medication in accordance with state law and district policy;5.Serves on the district wellness committee;6.Advises and counsels students, staff and parents, as appropriate, concerning health issues;7.Makes referrals to school resources, community agencies, and state agencies as necessary;8.Serves as consultant and resource person in health instruction and curriculum planning;9.Advises and supports administrators regarding development of district policies and procedures related to health issues and the implementation of state law;10.Refers students with suspected disabilities to district specialists/pupil and support teams;11.Makes recommendations to the principal regarding health and safety to promote a safe, healthy and comfortable learning environment;12.Maintains professional competence by doing professional reading and attending appropriate workshops, courses and conferences in keeping with the needs of the student body and in accordance with district guidelines;13.Reports promptly communicable diseases designated as "reportable diseases" by the Director of Health, when such cases are diagnosed in the school-based health center14.Maintains a health care record on every patient seeking health care services that documents for each visit to the school-based health center the following: Patient identification (name, address, age and sex), pertinent health history and physical findings, diagnostic and therapeutic orders, reports of procedures, tests and findings of each visit, diagnostic impressions; and other pertinent data;15.Provides training for district staff concerning health related issues;16.Communicates with parents/guardians as needed concerning their childs health;17.Communicates with various health related organizations in the community and surrounding areas as needed for students and staff;18.Appraises administrators, teachers, and staff of relevant health issues and exemplary programs being used in other districts and actively leads the incorporation of relevant effective practices within our district;19.Prepares budgets according to the procedures established by the Business Manager;20.Provides the Principal with year-ending inventory of materials, where appropriate;21.Coordinates orientation/articulation programs for students moving from elementary schools to the middle school and/or from the middle school to the high school as appropriate;22.Attends a reasonable number of additional after school meetings, as needed, to perform the functions of the position; 23.Performs the duties of the position for the posted compensation; 24.Establishes and monitors the student (cumulative) record system to ensure that relevant, up-to-date information is maintained and an effective procedure for the release of student records to authorized agencies, educational institutions and individuals in accordance governing laws and policies;25.Perform the functions of the position in accordance with the: RI Professional Code of Conduct; laws, regulations, school district policies, the mission of the district, school-based plans, and administrative directives / priorities / requests to meet student needs and ensure the operation of the school health services; and26.Performs such other functions, duties, tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent or designee.
