Position Purpose
The FOSS General Manager (GM) learning path is an in-depth program designed to provide exposure to all facets of managing a school through targeted training and development courses and hands on learning. Focus areas include operational and financial performance, staffing and employee engagement, swim path curriculum, customer service, and general school management so incumbents can transition into a future leadership role. The General Manager acts as the main point of contact for their team and customers. This role is designed both for emerging leaders and those transiting their career to a new industry.
Essential Job Functions as a General Manager:
The following essential functions represent the primary work performed; however, the GM may be asked to assist with projects or tasks not detailed here but fall within the scope of this role. GM’s will train to learn key roles including Swim Teacher, Customer Support Service, Teacher Assistant, Supervisor, Assistant Manager and General Manager. Through these rotations, GM’s will learn to manage FOSS methods and processes and build strengths in competencies such as business acumen, time management, organizational execution, and accountability, and developing, motivating, and managing talent.

- Coach and counsel (manage) team members regarding individual performance and other career development opportunities, taking corrective action when necessary.
- Create an environment that inspires a high level of commitment and performance.

- Build relationships with customers to create loyalty and excitement about the Foss Brand Purpose, programming, and community.
- Be present in and out of the schools as a FOSS Brand Ambassador.
- Ensure facility cleanliness standards are satisfied.
- Performs preventative maintenance throughout facility in conjunction with Regional Facility Manager.
- Two (2) years of management experience, including a people manager role.
- Must obtain American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment, be required to adhere to American Red Cross standards outlined in the certification requirements and maintain an active certificate throughout tenure in the role. Please note that FOSS will pay the costs for both the initial and renewal certifications.
- Demonstrate aptitude for analyzing data/reports/documents to drive decision making.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrate ability to manage confidential and sensitive information, possess a high degree of personal integrity and sound judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas to internal teams and external partners or vendors.
- Availability to workdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to participate in organizational, employee or community engagement events as necessary.
- Interact well in a diverse community.
- Experience managing the performance of employees, including providing feedback.

- Ability to travel to school locations throughout the Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Madison, WI; St. Louis, MO; Ankeny, IA; and Fargo, ND throughout General Manager Training Program, as necessary.
- Ability to work in water and demonstrate the physical movements necessary to teach the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
- Work in an indoor pool facility that will be warm and humid with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
- Ability to work in areas exposed to noise, chemicals, and industrial equipment and supplies.
- Speak with others, including children, using clear, professional, and age-appropriate language.
- Move up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 15 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance.
- Review documents, computer monitors or displays with potentially small print.
- Operate a computer, handheld device such as an iPad, phone and other common office tools or controls.
- Mentally focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgement.
