Position Summary
The Foss Park District is seeking a dependable and motivated Parks Foreman to support the maintenance and upkeep of park grounds and facilities. This position assists in coordinating daily maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed efficiently, and helping maintain safe, clean, and accessible parks for the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, landscaping, and facility upkeep
- Operate equipment such as trucks, tractors, chainsaws, and other power tools
- Assist with park and facility repairs, replacements, and improvements
- Support the coordination of daily work assignments as directed by the Superintendent
- Assist with District-wide trash collection
- Participate in snow and ice removal operations
- Monitor park and facility conditions and report maintenance needs or concerns
- Assist in planning and completing maintenance projects
- Follow all safety procedures and risk management practices
- Provide professional and courteous service to the public and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsExperience
- Prior experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or a related field preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and materials
- Ability to safely operate trucks, tractors, and light motorized equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong reliability and attention to detail
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License (Required)
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 6–12 months of hire
Physical Requirements (ADA-Compliant)
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position
- Tasks may include lifting, carrying, bending, standing, walking, and operating maintenance equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Schedule
- Schedule varies based on operational needs
- May include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and emergency response (including snow removal)
Conditions of Employment
- Successful completion of a six (6) month probationary period
- Background check conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws
