What is Upward Bound:
Upward Bound serves high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and/or from families who meet federal income guidelines. The goal of UB is to help students recognize and develop their potential and to encourage them to pursue post-secondary degrees. Our goal of summer programming is to incorporate learning in a fun and creative way.
Where:
- This will be an opportunity to teach on campus at UW River Falls in River Falls, WI in a classroom setting.
When:
- Training and orientation will be determined for a later date.
- In-person classes will run:
- English Composition Focus for Session 1
- Workshop: Tuesday 6/9 (9:00 - 10:30 am) and (11:00 am - 12:30 pm)
- Workshop: Wednesday 6/10 (9:00 - 10:30 am) and (11:00 - 12:30 pm)
- English Literature Focus for Session 2
- Workshop: Tuesday 6/30 (9:00 - 10:30 am) and (11:00 - 12:30 pm)
- Wednesday 7/1 (9:00 - 10:30 am) and (11:00 - 12:30 pm)
- Note: Workshops held on the same day are the same workshop taught twice.
- One virtual learning assignment per week will be required for students to complete asynchronously, preferably through Google Classroom or similar approved platform
- Approximately 10–20 students per workshop.

- Develop a curriculum focusing on key concepts designed around the summer’s theme
- Develop hands-on activities for workshops
- Submit a syllabus May 1, 2026
- Attend teacher orientation
- Create pre and post test
- Communicate and give feedback to students.
- Submit final grades to staff by July 13th.
- Be a positive role model for our Upward Bound scholars!
Teacher Hours:
Class Time Hours: 12 hours
Virtual Google Classroom management: 4 hours
Prep Hours: 12 hours
Orientation, Meetings & Reporting: 4 Hours
Total hours: 32 Hours
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The job requirements include:
- Licensed teacher for 9th – 12th grade in given field and at least 1 year teaching experience preferred.
- All offers will be contingent on a successful criminal background check.
- Must live and work in Wisconsin.
