Sales Category Manager – Consumer Goods (in office in Manhattan)
We are seeking a Sales Category Manager who will drive category growth and profitability for consumer goods sold through big-box and national retail partners. This role focuses on developing category strategies, managing retailer relationships, and leveraging data-driven insights to optimize assortment, pricing, and promotional execution.
The ideal candidate will have experience navigating large national retail accounts and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver best-in-class category performance.
- Develop and execute category strategies tailored to big-box and national retailers, identifying growth opportunities through market trends, shopper insights, and competitive analysis.
- Serve as the primary category contact for major retail accounts (e.g., Walmart, Target, Costco), partnering with retailer category managers to align on assortment, pricing, and promotional plans
- Monitor POS data and retailer scorecards to track performance and adjust strategies to achieve category sales targets, margin goals and share growth objectives
- Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability and recommend SKU rationalization and new product introductions
- Collaborate with marketing and trade teams to design retailer-specific promotions, evaluating promotional ROI and adjusting future plans for maximum impact.
- Utilize syndicated data and retailer analytics to inform decisions, preparing regular reports on category performance, forecasts, and recommendations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in category management or sales within consumer goods.
- Proven track record managing big-box or national retail accounts.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and syndicated data tools.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
The base salary for this position will fall between $100k - $150k base, plus commission to reach $200k - $250k in annual earnings.
